Are you fed up of all the diabetic diet menu advertised in the media? Are you appalled that none of them work? I am not surprised though for most of them are shit. Diabetic patients face a big problem while taking meals as they have to face a lot of restrictions while consuming food. This is because a diabetic diet menu is pretty different from the normal menus that ordinary people follow. Instead of remaining confused and perplexed, you can take the help of the diabetic diet menu I have described in this article.

Importance of snacks in diabetic diet menu

• Like any other normal individual, a diabetic patient too can feel hungry in between meals and wish to munch on snacks to satiate the gnawing hunger. Let me list a few light snacks for you.

• You can consume sixteen fat free tortilla chips dipped in salsa sauce to throw in a bit of spice; you may eat any kind of artificially sweetened dessert that you like or a ½ cup sugar free dessert; 1 ounce of string cheese will do just fine; you can chomp on any kind of citrus fruit – specially Indian gooseberry and guava or you can pop in 3 cups of light popcorn.

• There are 15 gm of carbohydrates and 60 calories in each of these snacks.

Carbohydrates in diabetic diet menu

• First I will concentrate on fruits.

You should eat apples, green apples, and all varieties of citrus fruits, berries, peaches, pears, plum, rubard and guava.

• Among veggies, you can eat carb rich items like avocados, beans, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, celery, cucumber, onions, lettuce, mushrooms, olives, peas, pepper, spinach and tomatoes.

• Along with these, you should also be aware of which carbohydrate food items you should avoid. They are corn flakes, cereals coated with sugar, dinner rolls and white bread, cakes, biscuits, bagels, buns, muffins, pan cakes, doughnuts, white rice, dates, prunes, water melon, broad beans, potatoes, parsnip and Swede.

Fats

• In a diabetic diet menu, most kinds of vegetable oils such as pure extra virgin olive oil, sesame seed oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, oil of avocado, various kinds of oily fishes rich in fatty acids omega 3, 6 and 9, salmon, mackerel, tuna, herrings, seeds and nuts and bread spreads like margarine can be safely consumed by a diabetic patient without any worry.

Diabetes is a condition when the body has high level of blood glucose and the excretion of the excess glucose in the urine. It is a chronic nutritional disorder. In this case, the body is unable to break the sugar levels and also cannot produce insulin. While the former causes excess of sugar level in the blood, the latter is concerned loss of energy. Diabetes is gradually emerging out as a big problem in the world at large. While the disorder mostly strikes the obese people in middle or older age, it is also common in the youth as well. The normal sugar content should be is 80 -120mg per 100 ml of blood. When it is above this level, it needs to be controlled. Diabetes causes hunger, weight loss, thirst, urination, dehydration. In severe cases also, heart disease, hearing and vision problems are also caused. However, the level of sugar can be controlled with minimum efforts.

Read more on Home Remedies for Diabetes and Diabetes Control and Maintain Blood Sugar Level

Diet plays a significant role in controlling the diabetes.

The diabetic diet may be used alone or else in combination with insulin doses or with oral hypoglycemic drugs. Main objective of diabetic diet is to maintain ideal body weight, by providing adequate nutrition along with normal blood sugar levels in blood. The diet plan for a diabetic is based on height, weight, age, sex, physical activity and nature of diabetes. While planning diet, the dietician has to consider complications such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels.

With respect to the above factors, a dietician will assess calories to be given, like scheming the carbohydrates, proteins, fats, type of carbohydrate, amount of fiber and so on.

Exchange meal plan is a diet program which balances the amount of carbohydrate that we intake per day. Glucose is a sugar released from carbohydrate so, if we want to control blood sugar we have to limit the consumption of simple carbohydrate. Carbohydrate foods are given as value per portion, known as the exchange. This plan helps us to decide on the type of food to be taken, the amount of food and also the time to eat. You can plan for more flexible meals as you get more knowledge about the diet for a diabetic, may be like the counting carbohydrate meal plan or constant carbohydrate. But there is no common diet that works for everyone. Nor is there any particular diet that works perfectly for any diabetic over a long period. While planning diabetes diet we should adhere to certain important factors, they are as follows:

1. Fiber should be at least 1.4 oz / day

2. Instead of 3 heavy meals, we should go for 4-5 small mid intervals

3. Replace bakery products and fast foods by simple whole cooked cereals, and don’t eat carbohydrates 2 hours before bedtime

4. Consume fresh fruit and vegetables at least 5 exchange/ day

Diabetics always need to take care of their diet and also about the food they eat. Care has to be taken because all foods contain not only carbohydrate, but also some energy value. Protein and fat available in the food are converted to glucose in the body. This glucose has some effect on the blood sugar level, which has to be taken care of. Furthermore, you needn’t have to eat only the bland boring diet. Instead, you can eat more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. All it means is that you need to select foods that are high in nutrition and low in calories.

For those who have diabetes, your physique can’t make or appropriately use insulin. This results in high blood glucose, or sugar, levels inside your blood. Healthy eating helps to reduce your blood sugar. It’s a essential part of managing your diabetes, due to the fact controlling your blood sugar can stop the complications of diabetes.

Thus, there’s a need to choose your food wisely and very carefully. The most beneficial method to do that is to devise a healthy diet plan program where you are able to scientifically plot which food groups should be the most priority and also the least priority. There’s a common rule for this. Fruits and vegetables verified to enhance insulin levels ought to be offered a rightful spot in the diet plan for Kind 1 diabetes sufferers. That is accomplished because diabetes is nevertheless on its onset and preventive measures can nevertheless be done.

Even so, among adults that have Sort 2 diabetes, the concentrate is much more on achieving the perfect, standard weight and blood glucose levels.

There are also proposed amounts of carbohydrates or fats, you must refer to nutrition guide tables that your medical doctor may well have offered. You should also take note of nutrition facts and labels from the groceries that you just purchased. Basically add the calorie and carbohydrate content material (if any) in every item and try and identified if they meet or exceed inside the calorie requirement of a specific meal.

It can be mentioned that carbohydrates from our diet plan come from starches, fruits and milk. Some vegetables include some carbohydrates but they’re mostly produced of fiber that could aid in digestion. Meat does not contain carbohydrates but naturally consists of fat.

Vegetables are a lot more advisable since they contain complex carbohydrates which can’t simply be broken down in the course of metabolism. As a consequence, they do not raise the glucose levels abruptly. Basic carbohydrates from breads and sweets are produced of basic carbohydrates that usually do not take a longer time to be converted into glucose, therefore could impact glucose levels in such a short time frame.

1 really should be mindful which food has straightforward or complicated carbohydrates. It would also support if you avoid sweets (cakes, mayonnaise-based salads and chocolates) in both meals and snacks. Usually serve food in modest and medium servings. In case you crave on a thing that’s prohibited, eat a few of it in little amounts or locate other food options which will nevertheless satisfy your taste buds.

Also limit your alcohol and caffeine intake. Alcohol, when broken down, will make excess fat and glucose elements that, again, can raise blood glucose levels and may possibly also affect other organs such as the heart and the liver.

Bear in mind, dieting is not going to be profitable without having a good outlook and exercise. Constantly assume positive. Tension is negative for the wellness. Have a great deal of physical exercise to burn extra fats and calories within your body. Always consult your medical doctor for new developments. The doctor’s findings and excellent laboratory outcomes will certainly inspire you much more to continue your wholesome ways in combating diabetes.

People afflicted with diabetes lose feelings in their extremities, especially the hands and feet. The feet may lose their ability to telegraph important functions such as pain and discomfort as well as balance. When this happens ulcers, abrasions or sprains can go undetected and cause major complications within a short period of time. Special shoes for diabetics are intended to reduce these afflictions.

Shoes for diabetic patients are made from soft materials and include protective inserts that make allowances for neuropathy, or numb feet, afflictions from poor circulation and potentially-painful dangers such as bunions and hammertoes. The main function of these type of shoes is to cut down on the friction and pressure that can lead to foot sores and, even worse, infection, gangrene and amputation.

There are two basic types of diabetic shoes: custom molded and depth shoes:

Custom-molded shoes:

* Are made from a mold of the foot so they fit exactly to the wearer.

* Use leather or some other soft material that can breathe and move effortlessly with the foot.

* Use removable soles that can be adjusted to any change in the wearer’s condition.

* Use an easily accessible closing method such as an easy-lace system or, better yet, velcro straps.

Depth shoes are similar except that they have a full-length, removable liner that can be exchanged for new custom-made inserts.

In addition, as they are not custom-made, the models are manufactured in full and half-sizes and in three widths.

It is important to note that getting a fitting for diabetic shoes should be done in the afternoon as the foot swells to its full size then.

By scheduling an appointment in morning the wearer will get shoes that will be uncomfortably tight as the day progresses.

In addition, these shoes can only protect the wearer’s feet up to a certain point. Socks and stockings should be worn all times to keep moisture away from the foot. Choose only seamless styles as the threaded ridges from normal socks may cause foot irritations.

The shoe process always begins with the podiatrist or foot and ankle surgeon. These professionals will take an accurate measurement of the feet so that the shoes can be ordered. In the case of a custom-fit the prescription molds will be sent out to the manufacturer. Special slippers should also be considered for walking in homes with hardwood, laminate or any other type of hard flooring. The specialist can advise the wearer on different types of leisure shoes as well.

Many pregnant women each year are diagnosed with gestational diabetes each year. Many of these women have family histories involving diabetes. This condition is characterized by high levels of glucose in their blood. There are women, though who will practice the prevention of gestational diabetes. These women also exhibit a tolerance to insulin, and have developed gestational diabetes. These are often women who understand about this disease, through their experience with others who have it. Some of these pregnant women will enlist the help of their physician, and learn about the prevention of gestational diabetes during pregnancy.

There are a few women who have family members with diabetes. They have seen the effects of this disease and want to use any methods they can to achieve the prevention of gestational diabetes. Apart of the testing process for this disease, now includes the eating of jelly beans.

This is done in the screening process, before this form of diabetes is confirmed.

Prevention of gestational diabetes is often taken most seriously, when a pregnant woman finds she is at risk. Women, who are obese, and have a family history of diabetes are vulnerable to developing GD. If you have experienced one or more still born births, you may be at risk of developing this disease. Women of certain races, are more susceptible than other women. Some of the races, which are at risk, are African Americans, Native Americans, and Hispanics.

There are a number of ways to practice the prevention of gestational diabetes. One form of prevention of gestational diabetes is through staying at a healthy weight. This practice can be beneficial even before a woman becomes pregnant.

If you are able to maintain a weight that is healthy for your height, you will be in the habit of limiting yourself. Limiting the amount, of unhealthy food choices, is one of the most effective ways to maintaining weight.

Another method of prevention of gestational diabetes is to not gain too much weight during pregnancy. Women, who fall in line with many of the risk factors, do not have the option of ignoring weight. Weight is very crucial to remaining healthy and avoiding disease. So, just as a woman is used to monitoring her weight before pregnancy, she should do so during pregnancy.

This doesn’t mean she has to avoid all of her cravings. It just means she must watch what she eats, and how much. This is a way to prevent this form of diabetes from developing. Another prevention technique is exercise. If a pregnant woman gets regular exercise, she can provide a healthier scenario for herself and her baby.

Exercise works two-fold. It not only helps the pregnant woman to become physically fit, but to also monitor her weight gain. Exercise is important to maintaining weight. Another thing, that exercise can achieve, for these women, is to keep their blood sugar within a safe range. These and all preventive methods should be discussed with your physician. He or she can be very helpful in this process.

For most pregnant women choosing healthy and relatively small portions of food is sufficient to maintain blood sugar levels within recommended norms. Together with mild exercise they can easily control their weight gains, which is the #1 cause for developing gestational diabetes.

Up to 15% of pregnant women however are diagnosed during their second trimester for gestational diabetes, in which blood sugar levels are elevated. For such women an individualized gestational diabetes diet must be devised and managed.

For a gestational diabetes diet to be effective it must relate to the following:

– Involve the pregnant woman in the food selection — Fit with her lifestyle — Match her budget — Be non-trendy

The diet must balance between healthy food and the diagnosed woman’s preferences. It is a good practice to involve her in the planning of her meals to include both the food she needs and the food she enjoys.

Clearly, she knows best what works for her. Having said that, the woman must monitor the effects her diet has on her weight gain and apply changes accordingly.

The diet must relate to the woman’s lifestyle when selecting her food items. For example, availability at the workplace cafeteria should be considered and healthy food may need to be brought from home.

The diet must also consider budget limitations. For example, a low–carb diet rich with meats and vegetables may not be affordable to all.

The diet must not follow “trends”. Claims made by one diet or another may prove to be inaccurate, at least to some. A trendy diet may be replaced tomorrow by a newer one…

The effective gestational diabetes dietis the one that proves effective to the diagnosed pregnant woman by helping her to maintain optimal blood sugar levels! The diet should be individually planned together with your dietitian and be approved by your physician.

Don’t send your child off to school having eaten a bowl of sugary cereal or a treat loaded with sugar. Your child’s performance at school may be directly related to what you serve them for breakfast. Try these healthy breakfast foods for your family. And these recipes are also diabetic friendly for the diabetic child. Options include Eggsclusive BLT Sandwiches which are perfect for the family who has to deal with a morning rush. Make the egg mixture the night before and refrigerate. For more speed, use the already cooked bacon. Assemble the sandwiches in the morning, as needed. The Chocolate-Banana Milkshake is a good way to please the picky eater and is also very quick and easy. It can even be consumed in the car on the way to school, if necessary. The Whole-Wheat Waffles are always a good option and can be topped with fruit or sugar-free syrup. (My grandchildren eat sugar-free syrup at my house and don’t even notice the difference between “Grandma’s syrup” and what they eat at home.)

EGGSCLUSIVE BLT SANDWICHES

4 hard-cooked eggs

1/2 cup chopped celery

1 1/2 tsp pimento, chopped

1/4 tsp salt

1/8 tsp pepper

1/3 cup mayonnaise

12 slices whole-wheat toast,(buttered-optional)

2 tomatoes, sliced

8 slices bacon, cooked

4 lettuce leaves

Chop the eggs fine and add the celery, pimento, salt, pepper, and mayonnaise; mix well.

Spread 4 slices of toast evenly with the egg mixture. Top the egg mixture with another slice of the toast. Arrange tomatoes, bacon, and lettuce on the second slice of toast. Top the sandwiches with the final 4 slices of toast. To serve, cut each sandwich into quarters and hold together with long toothpicks.

NOTE: Warning: Remove the picks before eating to avoid choking!

CHOCOLATE-BANANA MILKSHAKE

2 cups milk

1 medium banana, sliced

1 tsp unsweetened cocoa

Combine the ingredients in the container of an electric blender.

Process until frothy.

WHOLE WHEAT WAFFLES

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup unbleached white flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 egg OR 1/4 cup egg substitute

1 cup buttermilk

1 tbsp canola oil

Place whole wheat flour, unbleached white flour, baking soda and cinnamon in a medium mixing bowl. In a smaller bowl, beat the egg and add buttermilk and oil. Lightly oil and then heat your waffle iron. Stir the egg mixture into the dry ingredients just until combined. Bake the batter on the hot waffle iron.
Serves 2

Enjoy!
